Your business needs you to take a break

Let's talk about the importance of rest. The ability to take a break, unplug, or play. If you work for someone else, then you take sick leave or vacation time. You also have weekends and holidays off (most often). But if you work for yourself, YOU have to create that rest. YOU have to take that time off for yourself. And this is so important because you need it, your business needs it!

I'm writing to you from one of my favorite places, the mountains. And as I sit here absorbing the quiet of nature and a strong cup of coffee, I can't help but think of all the years I didn't know how to rest. And quite honestly it's something I still struggle with. But I've learned how important rest is and it's something I now make a priority. Today I'm encouraging you to do the same!

Your business will be better if you create time for rest. You'll get more inspiration, have more stamina, and will enjoy a happier balanced life. Maybe you start with planning a big vacation each year. Or...

To BE more you've got to first BELIEVE you're worthy

I was in my mastermind training the other day and the guest speaker said something that blew my mind. She said that if you're feeling stuck it's an issue with your beliefs or your behaviors. Meaning, you can have full faith in what you are doing and not take action. Or you can doubt your way forward. But either option will hold you back.

It's in that moment that it all clicked. The real work starts up here (you can't see, but I'm pointing to my head). You see, for so long I knew I wanted to be "successful." But I didn't identify what that was for a long time! Therefor I felt stagnant, stuck, restless.

The very first mindset exercise I did was recommended to me by a successful salon owner, (thanks Marv)! He had me envision my life 10 years from now. And write that vision down like it was reality. What car did I drive? Where did I live? Was I married? With kids? What job did I have? Then I did the same thing for 5 years out, 2 years out, 1 year out, 6 months out, and 1...

Don't let Covid cancel your business!

It just felt like time to do a little Covid check-in. Like an update on how life has been since it changed for literally all of us. Things are weird. And unknown. And at times messy. But I would argue now is the perfect time to work ON your business. Yup. You know, the goal setting, planning, pivoting, growing, that kind of stuff. And here is why.

Maybe you actually enjoyed some down time and it made you realize you are working too much. And if your business has entered a busy season, it's made you feel... resentful? Stressed? Overwhelmed? Then you, my friend, need to make some real business shifts that will rock your world.

More real talk... Maybe your business had to close (like salons in Washington) and you had no cash reserves. Then it's time to figure out a way to make more money in your business. And also come up with a spending strategy that keeps you in check.

How about clients? Are there some you were hoping would kind of forget about you? They're nice and...

That cupcake isn't going to kill ya

personal growth May 11, 2020

Well if you were hanging around for the last post, you “hopefully” read my blog about getting unstuck.  For me, that journey started with food and my instinct was to ramble on and on about the corruption of the food industry and all the bad information out there.  So, voila, I made a whole stand alone post all about food. Here. We. Go.

I want you to stop telling skinny people that they can eat whatever they want, or that they should eat more cheeseburgers.  I’ve heard both of those things and it’s hurtful and wrong. We all should care about what we are putting in our body. That being said, I’m going to share what I’ve learned along the way (please keep in mind, despite my parents best efforts, “I no doctor”).

I was a dancer my entire life.  A beanpole who shoved double cheeseburger meals down my throat on the car ride to practice every day.  I would train up to 5+ hours a day and had zero idea of what I...

McDonalds, serial killers, and not adulting

personal growth May 05, 2020

It all started with a lie I kept telling myself.  Okay, that sounds really dramatic but honestly, it’s true.  I had binge watched Mindhunter Season 2 for the second time and hit up the McDonalds drive-thru multiple times in one week.  Nothing against those things but I know I don’t feel my best when I have mystery meat gurgling in my stomach and my body hurts from sitting on the couch in the same position all day.  Anyways, I kept justifying my behavior because I was always “tired.” And I believed that to be true.

I’m not saying I was depressed, hibernating in my bed for weeks on end. But my usual inquisitive, self growth mindset was stunted.  Maybe I had started my business at a sprint when I should have been at a steady jog. Or maybe I was just working too much. Regardless of what got me there, I knew I needed to make some changes if I wanted to get “unstuck.”

And that’s when I had the...
